Here are some commonly asked questions (FAQ), but if you don’t find the answer here, no worries… send us a message and we will be sure to answer!
Do I need to speak Spanish to join?
We love to speak Spanish and we want to keep it alive within our group. We try to speak Spanish during all of our meetings, so we ask all participants to use as much Spanish as possible. If you would like to join check out these questions: Do you…
- Speak Spanish?
- Understand Spanish?
- Want to learn Spanish?
If you answered yes, to any of these questions, we would love to have you come and join us. Our activities are Spanish focused, but we understand that we live in a multi-lingual city. Join us and practice the beautiful Spanish language. It is a great advantage to know two languages (or more!). We want you to use them and enjoy them… Gracias.
Do I need to be Latina to join?
You don’t! If you speak Spanish and want to join, we want to learn from you. We do speak Spanish through the majority of our sessions.
What if I am a single dad and want my daughter to join?
You are welcome to join. As a single father, you bring a different perspective. We want to hear your thoughts and learn from each other.
Can I bring my son?
While Proyecto Mariposas is for girls we understand that Mariposas have brothers.
Does it cost anything to join?
Our money comes from donations. There is no membership cost. We do accept donations and often mothers bring snacks for our sessions.
Can I volunteer?
We welcome volunteers and mentors. Because we work with girls, we are very protective of them. If you are interested, send us an email at [email protected] and we will contact you to talk about opportunities.
Can my daughter be dropped off and attend the meeting by herself?
Our goal is to strengthen the relationship between mother and daughter, but we also understand that sometimes it is difficult to attend all meetings. Girls 11 years and above may be dropped off for the meetings. Please contact Yahaira to ensure we are prepared to provide her the best experience during the session. Our older girls can become the mentors and role models of those younger than them.
